This dramatic picture shows youths building a bonfire with a backdrop of a huge Loyalist mural. On 11th July every year, people in Loyalist areas burn effigies of Billy Lundy on fires throughout Belfast and further afield. Robert "Billy" Lundy was a 17th century Protestant, blacklisted as a traitor. Modern bonfires also burn the flag of the neighbouring Irish republic and other emblems of Irish nationalism.

This picture symbolises the changing mood of belfast. A loyalist UVF mural featuring hooded gunmen once stood on this site. It has in turn been partially demolished and vandalised. The decay symbolises 1980s Belfast. The rear of the picture shows the positive, brighter, vibrant Belfast rising from the ashes.
